Here we’ve pulled some of 2024’s most highly-anticipated Easter events, from Dolores Park’s famous Hunky Jesus Contest to Salesforce Park’s lively Spring Fling. Whether you’re seeking a kid-friendly egg hunt or an adult-friendly party, here’s how to celebrate Easter San Francisco style.

1. Easter in the Park/Hunky Jesus Contest

Our famous irreverent drag nuns, AKA the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, are back with another rendition of Easter In The Park, one of the most well-attended Easter activities in San Francisco. They’ll host the annual Children’s Easter from 10-11:30am with music, an egg drop, games, and performances. From noon to 4pm, emcees Honey Mahogany and Sister Roma will run the famous Hunky Jesus, Foxy Mary, and Easter Bonnet contests. Contestants show up in their hunkiest and foxiest Biblical costumes and compete for the grand title.

2. Spring Fling at Salesforce Park

Salesforce Park presents their annual Spring Fling, a kids Easter celebration and egg hunt in San Francisco with face painting, arts and crafts, great food and drinks, live music by The Hot Baked Goods, and Funny Bunny photos. There will be three egg hunts divided by age: ages 5-7 at the Central Lawn at 10:30am, ages 0-4 at the Amphitheater at 11:30am, and ages 8+ at the Central Lawn at 12:30pm.

3. Bring Your Own Big Wheel

For over two decades, San Franciscans have raced down Vermont Street on big wheels in one of the city’s wackiest events on Easter weekend: the Bring Your Own Big Wheel (BYOBW) race. Registration is open and the event remains free, but be sure to donate to help cover all the permits and city fees. There will be a young kids (13 and under) race from 2-3pm, and “adult children” ride 3-5pm.

4. Easter EggStravaganza: A Castrorific Block Party

Enjoy a lively Easter festival in the Castro at Easter EggStravaganza, a free block party with events for both kids and adults. Explore over thirty artist booths with spring-themed artwork and crafts for sale, a “kitten zone” for kids (12-3pm) with drag story time and Easter activities, costume contests, an “adult passport bunny hop” where adults can go on a scavenger hunt for drink tickets and prizes, music and dancing, and drag performances.

5. Dye Hard: Easter Egg Hunt + Festival at Kapwa Gardens

Kapwa Gardens is back with Dye Hard, a family-friendly Easter egg hunt in San Francisco, plus a petting zoo, kids’ activities, vendors, and plenty of photo ops. Attendees are encouraged to wear their most colorful tie dye clothing and a $5 donation is appreciated.

7. Meet & Greet with the Easter Bunny at SF Zoo

SF Zoo will celebrate Easter with an appearance from the Easter Bunny, kids’ crafts, and giveaways. Easter programming is free with zoo admission, and you’ll find it in the Zoo’s Entry Village.

8. 101st Easter Sunrise Service at Mount Davidson Cross

For over a century, San Francisco has awoken at sunrise to climb Mount Davidson for one of the longest-running Easter events in San Francisco. This year will mark the 101st anniversary of the non-denominational tradition, featuring prayers and greetings from Pastor David Ainsworth, musical performances, and words from local clergy.

9. Easter Sunday at Grace Cathedral

San Francisco’s beautiful Grace Cathedral will decorate the space with stunning spring flower arrangements and greens. They are presenting a range of services throughout Holy Week, but Easter Sunday brings several Eucharists with special additions. The 8:30am Eucharist features The Men of the Cathedral Choir, the 11am Eucharist features the Choir of Men and Boys, and the 6pm Eucharist features the Cathedral Singers.

10. Easter Sunday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco will host a free kid’s Easter egg hunt open to all on Easter Sunday at 10:15pm. The event will be sandwiched by two Festive Easter Worship services, happening at 9am and 11am.

11. Easter Weekend and celebration with New North Church

Throughout Easter Weekend, New North Church will host a lineup of Easter events including Good Friday services and Easter services. The community is invited for an Easter Celebration on March 30 leading up to the 5pm service, featuring egg hunts, a petting zoo, lawn games, face painting, bounce houses, a raffle, food trucks, and more.

12. Easter brunch in San Francisco

You can’t do much better than a hearty brunch with friends and family on Easter weekend. We’ve got a couple of related lists on standby to help you find a restaurant to book, including essential brunches, bottomless brunches, and outdoor brunches.

If you want to take Easter brunch in SF up another level, there are a few experiences to put on your radar: The Ritz-Carlton’s Parallel 37 restaurant will host a three course prix fixe menu, and the St. Regis’ Astra restaurant presents a special à la carte menu for Easter in SF.

13. Easter Egg Hunt and Parade in Sausalito

The city of Sausalito presents the 42nd annual Easter Egg Hunt and Parade this year. The parade will proceed down Caledonia St at 10am starting at the Johnson Fire Station, and festivities will continue at Dunphy Park for the rest of the morning. There will be a kid’s egg hunt at 10:15am, live music for kids at 10:30am, an Easter Bonnet contest at 11am, and an adult egg hunt with lots of prizes at 11:30am. Bring your own basket!

Woodside’s Filoli Estate & Gardens is blooming with over 75,000 spring flowers this year including daffodils, tulips, hyacinths, and blue violas. Now’s a great time go visit the gardens for the ultimate seasonal experience, and you can join the elegant Spring Tea in the Garden House for a beautiful array of finger sandwiches, scones, pastries, tea, and sparkling wine.

15. Spot some spring flowers around the San Francisco Bay Area

Millions of spring flowers will bloom around the Bay Area in the coming months. As SF Botanical Garden’s vibrant magnolia bloom comes to an end, we can now enjoy cherry blossoms and tulips in Golden Gate Park, plus huge swathes of almond blossoms throughout Central California.
